Another weekly update

Another busy week.  And again I am amazed at the weather swings here.  We got a foot of snow on Monday, it was cold on Tuesday and Wednesday and then it was 65 degrees today and 60 yesterday!  Still a lot of snow left to melt though.

With all the snow running has been interesting.  And I need new running shoes badly (2 new pairs will be getting here Tuesday!)  so it was a rough running week for me.  My feet hate me right now for wearing old running shoes.  I actually broke down and ran on the treadmill one day this week because I was nervous about slipping on the ice.  I hated it! And the fact that the girl next to me was talking on her cell phone for most of the time.  My hips were really sore the next day too--I guess maybe my running form was weird on the treadmill.  I won't be doing that again any time soon.  Other days were running on concrete or deep snow.  I still wanted to get on trails despite the snow.  I did my long run last week on the bike trails (all concrete) and was feeling it in my feet.  Having old shoes didn't help either.  More soreness from running in the snow.  Since yesterday was so warm I thought the trail must have melted and headed off for a long run with Frito.  We got to the trail and it was slippery and snow was ankle to knee deep!  I decided to just stay on the trail and run though it, but it was not easy!  My quads were the most tired.

I got outside for a long ride today with my team just under 3 hours, not including stops.  It was not my day.  My legs felt really heavy after my run yesterday.  I think the fact that I got really dehydrated yesterday didn't help how I felt today either.  But I got through it and hopefully my next outdoor ride will feel a little better.  There were still some parts of the road that were covered with ice or snow which made it a little tiring too.  It takes a lot of concentration to stay upright when riding on skinny tires through ice and snow.

It seems like I always need new gear with triathlons-new running shoes, new swimsuits, new training clothes, nutrition, etc.  It seems to never end.  I went quite awhile without buying new gear and now all of a sudden it seems like I need a lot of new stuff!  The helmet I ride in is from 2003!  Probably not safe to be wearing it, if I get in an accident, I'm not really sure how well it will hold up.  I finally have a new helmet!  And some new sunglasses. I've been using a pair that I one at a race back in 2004.  Time for some new ones.  And I will have some much needed new running shoes and mountain bike shoes.  And then I will be set on gear for awhile.  Thank goodness!

Another busy week coming up.  I have an exam this Friday, so that is obviously the main thing on my mind.  And my mountain bike should be arriving any day now!

Oh, to have a 65-degree day!!!!

I have trouble getting into a rhythm on the treadmill, too, and matching up my stride cadence with the speed I'm going.
