So far so good except

I have a bit of a cold. My nose started running and I started sneezing late this afternoon. Hopefully it's only a little cold.

So far this week I have been sticking to my run plan. Day off Monday (that was easy!). 45 min run Tuesday with 6x1min hard, 5 mins moderate. 6 miles easy on Wednesday. And today...Track. I've started running on my lunch break which is a new thing for me. Now that it gets dark earlier, it is nice to be able to run out during the daylight. There is a nice park near work and I also get an amazing view of the snow covered mountains on the way back.

So back to the track workout. I haven't done track in a long long time and never at altitude. I am racing this Saturday by the way, so I scaled the workout back a bit to 2x800, 4x400 with 400 jog rests. The high school must have been on fall break because the football team was out practicing in the middle of the day and I didn't have the track to myself like I expected. I was a little worried they were going to make me leave, but they left me alone. I didn't feel too speedy and my lungs definitely didn't feel great, but it was a starting point. I have a lot of work to do, so it's a good thing there are 12 weeks. The first 800 was 3:08 and each 200 got slower, second was 3:14 (I tried to pace but same story). The 400's were even paced in 92, 92, 91, 91. The third 400 just when I was going faster a celebratory football player didn't see that he ran onto the track right in front of me and I had to slow down and move out of his way. One of the hazards of running when the football team is there I guess.

I signed up for a 10.5 mile trail race on Saturday. It looks like a cool race so hopefully my cold goes away. My brother is also coming into Denver for a geology conference so I'll get to see him a bit over the next few days. If only we had extra bikes.

I would write more, but I should go to sleep early and take care of this cold.

Hope you feel better soon Maija!! And good luck on Saturday! Sounds like a fun race - can't wait to hear about it.

At least the football team generally stays off the track... where I'm running right now, I think they purposely stand in lane 1 to make my workout harder. I also think the coaches encourage it lol
