Milestone

Monday, I had a bike in the plans. But I forgot to mention I wanted to try going to masters swim again. First though was therapy. I told him about how i had decided not to go to Columbia and how I had felt so much better after I made the decision and talked through it all. After we talked about it he got a big smile on his face. He thought the decision I had made was a big milestone for me. Learning when I need to say no and what are good choices for me. When I am pushing myself to hard and asking too much of myself. And how this can carry over into relationships and work and everything. So, it was a big deal. The old me would have gone to the race and probably gotten run down further, maybe gotten sick, or not raced well, or maybe raced ok, but just felt tired. This weekend I was able to rest and mentally recharge. I still need to do more of that, but I made a huge step. That's worth celebrating! Who would think skipping a race would be a good thing?

Anyway, so I felt pretty good afterwards. I headed to the Y for masters but had time to spare. So I went for a 3 mile run. It was cool and sunny out. I felt good and relaxed and free. It just felt good to run, just to run cause I loved it.

Then into the pool. I got in and did 750m or so before others got there. Then Matt and Genine showed up with their camera. They have been doing a photo journal of the last 3 weeks to their goal race at Mooseman. So, they have been bringing their camera on to a lot of training.
Here is the preworkout "steam room shot". The lens fogs over cause it is so hot in there. Yes, my eyes are closed. You can see our Coach Elana in the yellow t-shirt in the background picking on the little kids she coaches before us.
Ok, so I do another 250m wu.
Then...5x100m fly kick on back. Ok, no prob...right?
This was on the first one I think...I am in the middle lane...I know it is the first one because Bob was not yet ahead of me and kicking water in my face yet. I've never known what's its like to be behind on a kick set before. Until last night. My abs! My lower back! My legs are sinking!
After that...
100 easy
5x200 on 4:00 (we were offered 2:00 mins rest...any more than what I took really does me no good...it actually makes me cold) I didn't' intend to descend them but I ended up starting at around 3:20 and finishing the last 2 at 3:10 with the middle 2 in between somewhere.
100 IM easy
3 mins vertical fly kick :10 on, :20 off

That's what were doing here. You'll notice the guys resting while we are doing the work! My head is slowly slipping underwater...I have the white cap on.
2x50 fingertip drag
2x50 almost catchup
2x50 4 kicks 1 stroke
2x50 "sprint"
200 cooldown
3300m total

It was hard to go to sleep after working out that late. And I came home to crazy dogs. The dog walker came, but still. They were crazy.

After work, Genine, Matt, and Bob met at my place for some biking. I was going to do my Monday bike. It ended up as a 1:35 bike ride. Almost 30 min warmup, then 10 mins big gear on mostly uphill, but gradual, with a minute of standing. Then 9 mins easy until the bottom of Stanton Mt. Rd. Then I rode up that hard which took a little less than 10 but was HARD! and around 9 mins easy until we could get across a major intersection to safely start the next interval which was fairly flat but big gear again. ended up 6 mins but had a bit of a break for a turn...then picked up a few mins later with the rest. Then nice easy home. It was a beautiful day and a nice hard ride.

The bike was so much fun tonight! We will have to do that more often. It was a great stress release after work.
